FIRE crews have been called to a ground floor flat in Newport this evening (Saturday).

Crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to a building on West Street.

Two appliances from Newport attended alongside one from Cowes.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We were called at 5.42pm to a ground floor fire at a domestic address.

"The fire was located in the hallway and put out using a hosereel jet. Two breathing apparatus and positive pressure ventilation were also used.

"The stop was called shortly after 6pm."

Ambulance and police teams also attended the scene, with nobody thought to have suffered injury.
