TWO Ryde flatmates have been warned they face the possibility of going behind bars after they grew a crop of cannabis plants.

Joseph Peter Bradshaw and Jason Anthony Butchers jointly admitted producing the class B drug at their ground floor property in Monkton Street.

Neighbours told the police they could smell cannabis and they suspected it was being grown in the flat, said Ann Smout, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

When police raided the property, they discovered 21 cannabis plants.

The plants were grown from seeds they bought when on a break in Amsterdam, the bench was told.

Bradshaw, 42, who has been of trouble with the courts the past ten years, works as a landscape gardener.

Butchers also admitted offering to supply cocaine on April 24 after mobile phones were seized.

As a result of his offending, Butchers, 40, flouted a suspended sentence order for possession of an offensive weapon.

"They realised they made a bad call and are gutted," said James Cameron, acting for both men.

Magistrates ordered reports on Bradshaw and Butchers, warning them they face the possibility of being jailed.

They were bailed to reappear for sentencing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on November 27.
