POLICE arrested a man in Newport yesterday (Wednesday), seizing a quantity of Class A and B drugs.

Their attention was drawn to the 36-year-old after noting he was acting suspiciously.

Upon seeing a marked Police vehicle driving along Quay Street, police say he dived into a dark alley and knelt down in a corner, trying to hide.

The male remains in custody on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

UPDATE 9.30am: 

A spokesperson for Isle of Wight Police said: "Officers conducted a search of a vehicle on Quay Street, Newport, at 8.27pm.

"An amount of Class A drugs were seized as a result.

"A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

"He has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries."
