POLICE units are at Bembridge Airport this afternoon, where a plane is being searched.
It is believed to be part of a Border Force investigation.
Further details have been sought from Hampshire Constabulary.

Meanwhile, a police officer said on the IW Police Facebook page:

"Who said Island Policing was all about fields! C Shift have a reputation for targeting those involved in drug supply across the Island.

"Today we were assisted by ARV and went one better than stopping a vehicle or an E Scooter - We stop searched a plane.

"Luckily the plane did not fail to stop for us as our Ford Focus’s don’t go that fast and they lack the ability to fly.

"Three males and a plane detained under S.23 Misuse of Drugs Act. We have just handed over to Border Force to progress the search.

"Our office is always one where we never know what is around the corner, but today is a day that we’ll all remember as something a little different."

UPDATE 5.15pm: A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary confirmed: "A number of officers attended an incident at Bembridge Airport shortly before 2.45pm today.

"They stopped a plane after it came in to land shortly afterwards.

"Three men and the plane were detained under S.23 Misuse of Drugs Act. The incident has now been handed over to colleagues in the Border Force."
