UPDATED: South Western Railways said the train had a fault, not damage, as was first thought.

The fault was mended before the train was pulled from service, so the route was unaffected in the end.

DAMAGE has been caused to an Island Line train — which meant it had to be pulled from service this afternoon.

Services from Ryde Pier Head, to Shanklin, are affected.

The following services will not run — 16.07, 17.07, 18.07, 19.07 and 20.07.

The service updated on Twitter: "Due to damage to a train, the following services are cancelled, we apologise for the disruption."

The County Press has gone to Island Line to find out what damage was caused.
