A member of Sandow's The Bay CE School community has tested positive for Covid-19, Executive headteacher Duncan Mills has confirmed.

Students, parents and staff have all been informed.

Year 8 has been asked to remain at home on Friday while Public Health England advice is accessed.

The school is about to start a two week half-term, which could mean that some are now required to isolate over the break. In a statement, the Isle of Wight County Press was told, that the school 'will rigorously follow advice and inform parents whether their child needs to self-isolate or not.'

It remains open for students in years 7, 9, 10 and 11.

Teresa Westcott-Hayes, head of school, said: “I want to reassure parents, students and staff that we have stringently followed public health guidelines.

"It is important that we continue to provide high quality education to all of our students and those that are asked to self-isolate will continue to receive their education remotely.”
