THE United Kingdom Sailing Academy (UKSA) welcomed its Patron, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, to Cowes this morning (Friday) for an update on its Building Better Futures campaign.
During the visit, The Princess Royal was shown the latest developments, including the acquisition and renovation of the Cowes Youth Centre, relaunched as a training facility with newly created navigation and broadcast suites.
Ben Willows, UKSA chief executive, said: “Having guided the organisation through the significant impact of Covid-19, it was particularly uplifting to welcome The Princess Royal to UKSA, and for this we thank her.
"We were proud to share our progress on several exciting initiatives that will strengthen both UKSA’s future and the future of thousands of young people we work with every year.
"I and the UKSA team would like to personally thank each and every one of (our donors and partners) for the support and generosity that allows us to continue to change the lives of deserving beneficiaries.”
Developed in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the new facilities will enable UKSA to deliver live online learning to students.
Princess Anne launched the campaign in 2017, and last year hosted a reception to celebrate it at St James’s Palace, an event which resulted in the maritime education charity’s largest single donation to date.
