ONE OF the best cricketers the Isle of Wight has ever produced, Danny Briggs, has joined Warwickshire.

Island-born Danny, 29, who bowls slow left-arm orthodox and has taken 568 wickets across all formats in an 11-year career in the professional game, has signed from Sussex on a three-year deal.

Danny, who played for Ventnor before he joined Hampshire, has won two T20 Blast titles and a One-Day Cup with Hampshire and gained seven T20 International (T20I) and one One-Day International (ODI) caps for England to date.

He made his debut for Hampshire as an 18-year-old in a one-day cup game in 2009 and he spent seven years with the county before joining Sussex ahead of the 2016 season.

Danny, who has joined Island-born Adam Hose, also an important member of the Warwickshire squad, made his T20I debut at Edgbaston in a victory over South Africa in 2012, before he went on to play in the ICC World T20 in Sri Lanka later that year.

Danny said: “I’ve had a great time at Hove over the past four years, but I’m delighted to make this move and join Warwickshire and the Bears.

"I like the club's exciting vision, which aligns with what I would like to achieve in the coming years.

“I’m looking to be part of all-format success and I haven’t given up a strong desire to play at the highest levels again.”

Warwickshire sport director, Paul Farbrace, was delighted to add Danny to the county ranks.

"For several years Danny has been widely recognised as one of the leading spinners in the county game and he is an excellent addition to our squad,” he said.

“His record in T20, in particular, is outstanding, as the leading wicket-taker in the history of the Blast with 172 wickets.

"Danny is vastly experienced across all three formats of the game and he knows what it takes to win trophies, having previously been part of teams that won both white ball competitions.

“We look forward to welcoming him into the Bears squad when the training programme for the 2021 season gets underway next month.”
