Isle of Wight care home resident Thelma Watson, 93, is marking a double celebration.

Not only is it her birthday but a piece of art, produced by her during a workshop on surrealism, has been named ‘Best Painting from a Care Home’ in a charity competition.

Although Thelma is not an artist, she enjoys the 'exploring art' sessions at The Limes in Bembridge.

She produced this mixed medium collage, featuring beach huts, which was entered into the Grow Old Disgracefully competition.

It was judged by Dame Judi Dench.

Although the work did not win the top prize, Thelma’s family (daughter Sue and grandchildren Michael and Victoria) say they are very proud and the sentiment is echoed by the care team.
