Christian Williams spends his life either behind the wheel of a supercar or a microphone.

In the second instalment of his exciting new monthly motoring column for the County Press, the DJ and ‘most hugged man in Britain’ tells us why Chris Evans dubbed him ‘a super Interflora man’ and explains the thrills of drag racing on a disused airstrip.

Christian writes: Generally my weeks are pretty mapped out in terms of organising content for BOTB’s YouTube channels and the car giveaways and the radio show, but this week has been a little crazier thanks to Chris Evans!

Obviously Chris is a broadcasting legend and well into his cars, but because I’ve been filing in on Virgin’s early breakfast show — yep, that’s a 4am start — we’ve had a bit more interaction than normal as I’ve handed over to him on-air instead of just bumping into each other in the corridor or working together when broadcasting live from the Isle of Wight last summer (my Dad really wanted a picture.)

Last week he referenced a BOTB video in which I handed over the keys to a stunning Audi RS6, together with a suitcase full of cash in the boot.

“Christian’s day job is delivering great cars, amazing cars to people who have won competitions,” Evans told his army of listeners. “He gave this gorgeous big RS6 to a guy who is in his garage fixing his old car, then tells him there’s £30,000 in the boot.

“That is like being the super Interflora man!”

These moments always make you pinch yourself a bit because it really hits home how much of a cool gig I’ve got. I never take it for granted, but because it’s so busy you don’t always get the chance to sit back and appreciate it.

Well, that chance certainly came when I was sat behind the wheel of a 666bhp Nissan GTR ‘Litchfield edition’.

It’s a Playstation car really but Litchfield bring it to life and they’ve given it some really cool features such as a ‘rolling launch’. Now, in order to enable the rolling launch, you either need an airstrip or the only piece of dual carriageway on the Isle of Wight (just joking)!

It’s hilarious fun. I’d never experienced a ‘rolling launch’ before. To engage it, you drive at a certain speed (usually around 30mph), hold the cruise button down, which disengages the clutch, floor the throttle, then release the button… BANG, the clutch re-engages at full RPM with the turbos already spinning and flames come out the back as it sends you what feels like, into space, it’s mad.

Litchfield really take what I think is, in all honesty a numb car, into something much more alive.

I’ve been behind the wheel of quite a few interesting cars since my first column last month in truth. I’ve driven a new Porsche 718 Spider (I just love that car), 4.0lt normally aspirated engine with a manual gearbox, a joy to drive with the roof down, a BMW M2 Competition (best car BMW produces in my eyes), a RenaultSport Megane RS Cup in a blinding orange and a 600hp Audi RSQ8 in the most amazing green colour I’ve seen. The RSQ8 is basically a Lamborghini Urus with a slightly de-tuned engine, different body, oh and a £50,000 saving!

I never know where I’m going to be from one week to the next and I really clock up the miles, with winners all over the UK and Europe.

But thanks to Chris it seems like the RS6 was the biggest talking point. I remember using one as a wedding car for a friend of mine, Toby, on the Island: not only was there enough room for all the groomsmen but we got there way before the guests arrived.

Car hit of the month: Porsche 718 Spyder — a sublime drive

Car miss of the month: RenaultSport Megane RS Cup — a sheep in wolf’s clothing

Tune of the month: Semisonic, You’re Not Alone

Top speed: 180mph, but it was on an airstrip, not Medina Way!
