A MAN from Newport has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

Isle of Wight police officers searched the man, who was walking through the streets of Newport, and recovered a lock knife.

A spokesperson for Isle of Wight Police said: "A 62-year-old male from Newport was charged for possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and also charged with a public order offence.

"Officers across all Island response teams, ARV, dog units and neighbourhoods will continue to ethically exercise powers available under stop and search to keep our (community) safe."

The man will appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates court at a later date.
