STAFF at Asda in Newport have donated two large cages of food to the local community.

Salvation Army members Rodney and Lillian Bean collected the donations last week, and they will now be shared with homeless people and others in need.

Asda's coffee shop had excess food that due to restrictions could not be used, so Clare Jones Community Champion sourced where the fare would most benefit people in and around the Newport area.

Fareshare, the UK's largest charity fighting hunger and food waste, contacted the Salvation Army to see if the products could be put to good use and the two cages were swiftly collected by Rodney and Lillian.

Andy Rea, manager of the coffee shop, said he was very pleased to help out the local community and delighted the food would be going to such a good cause.
