THE viewing platform at Morton Marsh has been set alight — not long after it was completed.

Someone set fire to it late Thursday afternoon, resulting in a visit by firefighters to put the flames out.

Jamie Marsh, of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, said: "This is incredibly frustrating as the structure had just been completed.

"The structure is now closed pending assessment and repair.

"We will try and get this done as soon as possible so people can again enjoy the site and its wildlife.

"This may be costly so please be patient as the Wildlife Trust try to raise funds.

"If anyone has any information then please let me or the police know.

"Thanks to the fire brigade for their prompt response."

Morton Marsh is near Brading.
