ISLE of Wight Police are appealing to parents following a recent spate of incidents involving children climbing onto roofs.

Police are asking parents if they know where their children are after school and during the evenings.

A spokesperson for Isle of Wight Police said: "Due to the weather being so nice, we are receiving numerous reports of children climbing onto the roof areas of several stores in Newport town centre.

"Aside from the damage being caused to the roofing, there is a significant risk to these children.

"These pictures were taken last night by members of the public.

"Our PCSOs will be monitoring the situation and taking action when they need to.

"Please, if you suspect your children may be doing this, explain the dangers again to them.

"We will be visiting the parents of any children we find up here and we will also deal with any damage caused.

"We really don’t want to see any serious injuries to these children."
