BEAPER Shute has been closed following a car crash.

An emergency road closure has been put in place from Carpenters Road to Tesco Roundabout and emergency services are on the scene.

Two cars are involved.

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have sent crews from Newport, Sandown and Ryde.

A spokesperson for Southern Vectis said: "There has been an RTI on Beaper Shute and the road has been closed by police.

"At present, Route 2 and 3 buses will be diverting from Brading via St Helens and Appley to reach St John's Church.

"During this time, we are currently unable to serve Tesco or Marlborough Road."

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service sent a response vehicle and an officer to the scene. 

School bus

Route 2 bueses are diverting due to that earlier crash on Beaper Shute.

The diversion route is via Yarbridge Crossroads, Bembridge, St Helens, and Appley to reach St John's Road.

Buses will then use High Park Road to reach Great Preston Road and Oakfield.

A shuttle bus is in place between Ryde and Tesco.

Update 3pm:

One male and one female were extricated from their vehicle by firefighters and handed into the care of the ambulance service.

The collision was between a Mitsubishi Warrior and a Kia Carens. Two minor injuries have been reported.
