PROLIFIC offender Paul Michael Butler has been jailed for 18 months for a string of offences — including using fake banknotes for a spree of takeaways.

He admitted 27 offences and was sentenced at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday.

The court heard Butler, 37, of Robin Hood Street, Newport, only has an IQ of 74 and mild learning disabilities.

His offences, in chronological order, were:

June 5: Theft of toy dolls from B&M.

June 6: Theft of Loreal gift set from Boots.

June 6: Theft of a vacuum cleaner worth £124.95 from Asda.

June 8: Theft of a babygro from Boots.

June 12: Theft of an £80 electric razor from Boots.

June 12: Theft of an electric toothbrush from Boots.

June 13: Ordered a Chinese takeaway from No1 Wok and paid with counterfeit money.

June 14: Ordered an Indian takeaway from Bengal Palace and paid with counterfeit money.

June 14: Ordered a Chinese takeaway from Hong Kong Express and paid with counterfeit money.

June 14: Ordered a Chinese takeaway from Dragon City and paid with counterfeit money.

June 15: Purchase from mobile repair shop and paid with counterfeit money.

June 15: Paid off a taxi debt and paid with counterfeit money.

June 15: Took a taxi ride via KFC and paid with counterfeit money.

June 15: Purchased tobacco and energy drinks from Farnsworth News worth £59.58 and paid with counterfeit money.

June 15: Purchased phone from GameStation and paid with counterfeit money.

June 15: Took a taxi ride and paid with counterfeit money.

June 15: Theft of washing powder from Co-op.

June 16: Possession of cannabis (two counts).

June 23: Took a taxi ride and made off without paying.

June 26: Theft of energy drinks and bananas from Co-op.

June 26: Theft of toilet roll from Co-op.

June 27: Theft of coats from Blacks.

June 29: Theft of trolley full of goods from Sainsburys worth £135.95.

June 29: Assault by battery on security guard at Sainsburys.

June 29: Theft of food from Farmhouse Fayre.

The counterfeit notes had "this is not legal tender" on the back.

On several occasions, he ran off when the cashiers noticed the money was fake.

As well as the prison sentence, Butler was ordered to pay a £156 victim surcharge.
