A THREE-VEHICLE crash has happened on the Downs Road, Arreton.

The road has been closed by police and traffic is being diverted.

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has sent three fire crews — from Newport, Shanklin and Ryde — and a specialist heavy rescue vehicle.

The Southern Vectis Downs Breezer bus is diverting to Lake, Sandown and Brading.

UPDATE: The air ambulance and Coastguard ambulance are both at the scene and there are two male casualties.

One is trapped in a vehicle and currently receiving assistance to extricate him.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is also there with a double crew.

A spokesperson for Isle of Wight Police said: "We were called at 2.15pm to a report of a three vehicle collision on Downend Road.

"Road closures have been put in place to allow us to deal with the incident."

UPDATE:

One casualty has been transferred to St Mary's Hospital by air ambulance.

UPDATE 9.20pm: Police have issued a witness appeal and confirmed that three drivers have all been injured.
