HOW many police officers currently work on the Isle of Wight?

It was recently announced the Island was to get nine new police officers as part of the government 'uplift' scheme, so the County Press asked how many officers we now have this side of the Solent.

There are currently 62 response and patrol officers, and 25 on the Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

Additionally, there are 26 in the Criminal Investigation Department and ten in the armed response unit.

There are six custody officers and three in the dog unit.

These numbers do not include some smaller teams with the CID which are not shown on the main listing, and it does not include staff such as detention officers, police staff investigators, and police community support officers.

The numbers are for the Isle of Wight only, not the Isle of Wight and Hampshire.

In a recent letter to Isle of Wight residents, Supt Sarah Jackson said: "Despite the pandemic, policing will still always carry on as usual, as our priority is to keep you protected.

"I want all Islanders to be reassured that we have not lost focus on the issues affecting our communities, or that we have become complacent to the fact that other forms of crime still continue to be committed by those who seek to cause us harm."
