THE first in a weekly series of new coronavirus infographics has been published by the Isle of Wight Council.

The aim is to bring together the headline coronavirus stats for the Isle of Wight in one easy place, showing the amount of cumulative cases, and amount of new cases each week.

It is designed to give Islanders the most accurate seven-day information for the Island.

Residents, visitors and others interested will be able to check how the Island is doing in terms of new positive tests and infection rates.

As previously reported by the County Press, there have been 429 cases on the Isle of Wight to date, including one this week.

There have been 87 coronavirus related deaths on the Island — 44 in a care home, 39 in hospital, three at home and one in hospice.

Isle of Wight County Press:

A council spokesperson said: "The weekly approach means we are able to see trends in data that a daily update can’t provide due to small numbers.

"It is also in response to questions about how the Island’s rate may be affected during the key tourism season and the return of schools following the summer break."

Simon Bryant, the Island's director for public health, said the figures would give residents an informative weekly view on whether the infection rate on the Island was falling or increasing.

He said: "Understanding the rates of coronavirus infection across the Island is essential for us to act quickly to manage any local outbreaks and can help people to take appropriate precautions."
