A WOMAN from the Isle of Wight who was scheduled to run the London Marathon earlier this year has found an alternative route to raise funds after the event was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Beverley James was set to take on the 26.2 mile course on behalf of the Isle of Wight Cats Protection, but will now take part in a virtual event on October 4.

She said: "I am an Isle of Wight Road Runner and part of the London Marathon community on Facebook.

"During my training in the month before the April London Marathon, I was in Fuerteventura when Spain locked down the island.

"I had already run twice on this beautiful island before we were made to stay in our hotel room for five days, it was here I received confirmation the 2020 London Marathon had been cancelled."

In lieu of this year's event, Beverley is in line to run the London Marathon in October next year.
