A FIRE was deliberately set by youths in Newport near Medina Leisure Centre.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said one crew from Newport Fire Station was sent at 8.17pm.

They said: "The fire was deliberately set by youths, in woodland behind the leisure centre."

Green Watch said: "We have just returned from dealing with a fire set in public woodlands in Newport.

"With extremely dry conditions at the moment, these fires can easily spread and cause a huge risk. Please think before lighting a fire."

The stop message came in at 8.38pm.
