The first edition of a newspaper, written by budding young journalists at Lanesend Primary School in Cowes, has been released.

Students voted for the paper to be named The Lanesend Times and put themselves forward for roles in the team.

Editor, Nanci, has written a piece on how schools around the world are dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

There is an illustrated wordsearch by Louis and sports coverage from Henry.

The aim is to offer students the opportunity to develop their skills in a variety of journalism-based fields.

Learning support assistant Charlotte Clare played a pivotal role in make it happen - even when plans were delayed as a result of the coronavirus lockdown.

She will be looking at fundraising ideas to get the students’ work into print and plans to publish half termly, distributing to students and families.

Charlotte said: "I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity for the students and a way to add to the school community spirit.

"During this turbulent time, it has provided a sense of inclusion and achievement for the students, giving them a focus to work on something they have an interest in. Who knows, they may have a career at the County Press in the future!"

The Lanesend Times is now available to read on the school's website HERE
