Coastguard teams from Ventnor and The Needles rescued a man and woman from the Isle of Wight's north west coast on Sunday night.

They were called the area, alongside Cowes RNLI, at around midnight.

The alarm was raised when one of the pair called for help on a mobile phone, telling coastguards they had been walking from Thorness to Gurnard.

The woman was escorted to safety while a search was carried out for the man.

He was given first aid, before being transferred by stretcher to the lifeboat, after being injured while climbing.

He was handed to the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service at Trinity Landing, Cowes.
