NO TRACE has been found of a spaniel which fell off the cliff edge between Watcombe Bay and Tennyson Monument.

Holidaymakers reported their dog had fallen off the cliff last night (Friday) at around 8pm.

Needles and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams were tasked to the search and a rope technician was deployed over the cliff in hope to find the dog.

After searching the immediate area, along with Freshwater Independent Lifeboat, no trace could be found.

The teams concluded the search at around 10.30pm.

A spokesperson from the Needles team said: "All our team are or have been dog owners, so from us, please please keep your dog on a lead when walking on cliff tops.

"We may well have an influx of holidaymakers on the Island now and in the coming months so hopefully we can spread the message enough so someone else's holiday doesn't get ruined again in this way."
