DETECTIVES have appealed for information from members of the public after an attempted carjacking.

The robbers’ vehicle was seen in the Warrington area after the incident on the A49 in Spurstow, near Nantwich, last Thursday.

A silver BMW overtook and stopped in front of a Mercedes at around 4pm on July 9 near to the junction with Badcock’s Lane.

Two men got out over the former car and demanded the keys to the latter, with one kicking the wing mirror after the driver refused.

The pair then drove away on the A49 in the direction or Tarporley, and their vehicle is later believed to have travelled to Warrington and Chester.

Afterwards, it was spotted by police in Staffordshire who attempted to pull the car over before it crashed into a bus stop in Salford following a chase.

Four men were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, attempted theft and criminal damage after the collision.

One was then de-arrested and taken to hospital for treatment as a result of the injuries he suffered during the accident.

The remaining three have since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Cheshire Police have now urged witnesses to come forward.

Detective constable Victoria Greenhoff said: “We have been following a number of enquiries in relation to this incident and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or had seen the silver BMW to come forward.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who may have caught dashcam footage of the incident itself, or anyone who may have footage of the vehicle on the lead up to the incident and after as it may be able to assist with our investigation.

“Following the incident, it is believed that the car travelled to other areas in Cheshire, including Chester and Warrington – and we are appealing for motorists in those areas who believe they may have seen the car to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the force on 101, quoting incident number IML750279, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
