AN OXFORD Mail reader has sparked outrage in the comments section after voicing a very controversial opinion.

On Tuesday we reported that live streams of Oxford's popular streets show more cars on the road and commuters getting to work.

Looking back at our story in April, when rammed tourist spots on Broad Street and St Giles were eerily quiet days after the country was put on lockdown, we stumbled across a very unusual opinion.

A reader, going by the name 'Sprouts are for all year round', said: "Oxford looks awful lockdown or no lockdown.

"Most of Oxfordshire's dull villages look exactly the same as well, lockdown or no lockdown."

But most of the other readers hit-back, one adding: "What, specifically, looks awful to you?

"Is it, perhaps, The Sheldonian, designed by the world-renowned Sir Christopher Wren, dating back to 1664?

Oxford Mail:

"The adjacent Radcliffe Camera?"

Another added: "Very strange. How on earth does Oxford look awful with honey-colored beautiful buildings [and] architecture that would floor most god awful towns?

"The colleges alone are stunning with their manicured gardens. We have Georgian buildings all over Oxford."

Others suggested they visit commuter towns a stones throw away from the city, like Slough, to 'appreciate it more'.
