POLICE arrested a woman in Shanklin following a disturbance in the early hours of this morning (Thursday), on suspicion of assault, criminal damage and actual bodily harm.

Isle of Wight officers from Hampshire Constabulary were called to Victoria Avenue where they arrested a 26-year-old.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 2.27am this morning to reports of an assault and criminal damage in Victoria Avenue in Shanklin.

"A small group had trespassed on a property before damaging a nearby van and assaulting a 67-year-old man.

"A 26-year-old woman from Binstead was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and assaulting a person causing actual bodily harm.

"The woman assaulted a police officer on arrest and was further arrested for assaulting an emergency worker."

The woman remains in custody at this time.
