A MAN was remanded in custody after becoming violent at the front counter of Newport Police Station last week.

Dean Norris, 40, of Osborne Road in East Cowes pleaded guilty yesterday (Tuesday) after becoming aggressive when his mobile phone was seized.

An update from the Isle of Wight Police said: "Last week, one of the E shift officers and a Student officer dealt with an incident at the front counter of Newport Police Station where a male was threatening and abusive to our station enquiry staff as he wished for the return of a seized mobile phone.

"We can confirm that Dean Norris of Osborne Road, East Cowes pleaded guilty yesterday to violent behaviour at a police station and was remanded in custody for this and another incident.

"Our station enquiry officers are here to assist the public and do not deserve to be subjected to this kind of behaviour."
