Councillors from Sandown Town Council litter picked and carried out maintenance work to open the town's Steven Jenkins playground on Saturday.

Guidance is also in place for the safe use of equipment and to ensure social distancing and hygiene.

Deputy Mayor Paul Brading, Isle of Wight Council's member for children's services, said: "Thanks to our groundsman Steve, the grass in the playpark, and by the cycle racks, is looking in great condition."

The Town Council had previously opened the public toilets and added 22 points for rubbish points on the beach.

It says it is working to reopen the Broadway Centre and repair the skatepark, which should be re-opened soon.

Mayor Gary Young said: "It's regrettable that the damage to the skatepark has delayed the safe re-opening of the facility, especially given the efforts of councillors to make it safe to open for local children and families."
