AN ISLE of Wight falconry centre has launched a fundraising campaign to keep their birds of prey fed.

Haven Falconry Bird of Prey Centre in Wootton Bridge has started a JustGiving campaign to raise £2,000 for their owls, eagles, kestrels and more.

Sally Martin, spokesperson for the centre, said: "It has been a very difficult time for us during the Covid-19 lockdown.

"We rely on income being generated through spring and summer to finance us during the long autumn and winter months.

"Therefore, we had to reduce staffing to just two falconers who worked on separate days on their own to care for all the birds and animals we have, which was very hard work for them. I thank them for their dedication.

"We are now open again on reduced hours following government guidelines but visitors are very few, and probably will remain so until tourists start to return to the Island.

"We were hopeful to benefit from the Government's Zoo Fund but we were declined.

"Somehow, to keep open, we have to generate enough income to see us through the winter to 2021 when hopefully things will be back to normal."
