EMERGENCY services are dealing with a serious road traffic collision near Whitwell tonight (Wednesday).

A van and motorcycle are thought to have collided, with police, ambulance and fire services in attendance.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "We were alerted by the Ambulance Service to the incident at 8.47pm tonight, at the junction of Southford Lane and Newport Road.

"A van and a motorcycle are said to be involved in the collision and the emergency services are currently on scene.

"Road closures are in place on Southford Lane and Newport Road and the public are urged to avoid the area at this time.

"If anyone saw the collision or has any information or dash cam footage, please get in touch by calling 101 and quoting Operation Overlay."

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire Service said: "We received a call at 9.26pm regarding a road traffic collision tonight.

"An appliance from Ventnor was sent to the incident and currently remains at the scene."

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service said: "We sent three units to the location after receiving a call at 8.39pm — this included air ambulance."

Traffic management remains in place following the incident, with surrounding roads having been closed.
