THE Isle of Wight Steam Railway will be returning to life this July — as custodians and enthusiasts prepare to come out of lockdown.

The railway will be up and running once again on July 12 — after the longest gap in its service in 50 years.

Trains will recommence running the full length of the line and the Train Story Discovery Centre will reopen its doors.

Steve Backhouse, general manager, said: “There will be some changes to ensure everyone’s safety, but we’re confident that our visitors can enjoy a great day out.

"Our carriages offer separate compartments for travel along the entire track and our staff will be there on-hand to open and close the doors.

"So it will feel like first class for everyone.

“We are fortunate to have a large outdoor site, which is perfect to explore and enjoy a picnic.

"I’d recommend checking our website before you visit and booking your tickets in advance.

"It will save you time and money."
