A CAR crashed off the road in Newport tonight.
The incident happened near the lane that joins Forest Road to Whitesmith Road, near Hunnyhill Primary School.
A local resident said they heard a screeching noise and a smashing sound just before 10.30pm, and went outside to see what had happened.
He said: "Loads of people heard it and went outside to see what was going on. There's loads of people gathered around.
"The car smashed bollards, metal railings and knocked over a lamppost.
"Police and ambulance are here."
There were two people in the car, a Nissan Qashqai, according to the resident.

UPDATE 11pm: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has also been in attendance.
The local resident said the occupants of the car have been detained by the police, following a search of the area.
