STARS usually seen on Island theatre stages performed an online concert last weekend.

IW Theatre got together virtually to celebrate the wealth of talent found on the Isle of Wight, with members from a whole variety of theatre groups submitting videos of songs from the movies.

The concert had everything you’d expect from a night at the movies, including performances by Megan West singing You’ve Got A Friend In Me from Toy Story, Harley Mackness belting out My Heart Will Go On from Titanic, and Olly Fry and his dad singing in their conservatory to Everybody Needs Somebody from the Blues Brothers.

There was upbeat group numbers from Curtain Call Creative with their take on Joyful, Joyful from Sister Act 2.

It wasn’t all singing — there’s a tap-dancing routine to the MGM classic, Singin’ in the Rain, instrumental performances from the Careless family with Downton Abbey theme tune and A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman, and an aerial silk display by Jaydene Lee to Adele’s Bond theme, Skyfall.

The concert’s musical director, Andrew Woodford, said: “I’ve been very impressed with the wonderful young performers who have taken part in the concert. This has been a great way to shine a light on their talent and hopefully help them on their performing arts journey.”

Joe Plumb, who edited and co-presented the show, said: “Each of the performers recorded these incredible pieces in their own homes during lockdown.

"Even in these challenging times, when the theatres are likely to remain closed for some time, we are able to come together as a community and celebrate.”

The show is available on the IW Theatre Facebook Page and will stay there for audiences to watch.

Details of the July concert will be announced soon, but the theme will be Evolution: Musical Theatre Through the Years.

To get everyone in the mood for the next concert, IW Theatre are running a World Cup of Musical Theatre to decide which show will be voted the best.
