A COWES resident has accused the Isle of Wight Council of 'vandalising the high street' after he was seen washing away social distancing markers.

Former Cowes town councillor John Corby was photographed using a power washer to remove social distancing markers placed outside of his High Street home this week by the Island council.

John Corby said: "I did indeed jet-wash the social distancing markers from outside my home.

"Just as the High Street is starting to get back some sense of normality, the Isle of Wight Council vandalises the High Street with an image of fear.

"Someone who suffers with any type of anxiety and or mental health issues would be horrified and frightened away.

"I have had a lot of support from others who feel the same."
