ACTOR Stephen Wight, who grew up in East Cowes, is currently starring in a new 12-part BBC1 television series.

He has scooped a role in I May Destroy You, which has the theme of sexual consent.

He plays Ben in the tough, gripping and rather unsettling drama, written by and starring Michaela Coel.

The series was two and a half years in the making and took six months to film.

Stephen described it as 'a very hard-hitting series which tackles some crucial and difficult subject matter'.

During his successful career, Stephen has appeared as a regular in numerous hit series like Diamond Geezer, Fingersmith, Bluestone 42, Manhunt and The Paradise.

His one-off guest appearances have included New Tricks, Ashes To Ashes and Sherlock.

On the big screen he's been seen in Wilderness, Highlander: The Source, Weekender and Man In Black: International.

His London stage appearances have included The Ladykillers, McQueen and Dealer's Choice.

He began acting at Medina High School and then joined Island amateur group the Ferrett Theatre Company.
