FIRE crews were called to a property in Newport this afternoon (Friday) after a chopping board that was left on a stove caught fire.

Crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service were called to a property on Drill Hall road at 4.25pm.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We were called to a fire due to a chopping board being left on the stove and it was out on arrival.

"Ventilation was carried out, advice and smoke alarms were given to the occupants.

"Please be careful with items in the kitchen."
