FIREFIGHTERS were called to Cowes last night (Wednesday) to deal with a small outdoor fire.

The fire crew from Victoria Road Fire Station in Cowes was sent to the shoreline of Arctic Road to douse the fire with water from the nearby river.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "A fire crew from Cowes received a call at 10.42pm regarding a small fire in the undergrowth of the shoreline of Arctic Road.

"The fire was extinguished using a bucket and water from the river, and the crew stopped shortly after 11pm. It is not known what started the fire."

A statement from the fire service last week urged people to extinguish anything with outdoor fire involved safely, and to avoid using anything with naked flames.
