CLASS A drugs are exchanging hands at Newport Quay, Victoria Recreation Ground, Newport and Nine Acres playing field, say Isle of Wight police.

In a post on its facebook page, the force is asking Islanders to report sightings and information, such as people acting suspiciously and car registrations.

Officers are urging those who can help to call 111, or Crimestoppers (0800 555 111) anonymously.

They say patrols in the area have been stepped up as part of Operation Fortress.

Isle of Wight County Press:

The Newport Neighbourhood Team said: “We know the damage Class A drugs do both to the individual and the community.

“We know, because we attend shopliftings in the town where the items are sold to buy drugs.

“We know, because we safeguard vulnerable individuals who are taken advantage of by those who sell drugs (cuckooing).

“Telling us doesn't make you a grass but it might save someone's life."

“We also know because we sadly attend people who have taken drug overdoses.

“We are fully aware of the damage Class A drugs do to families and loved ones.

“Telling us doesn't make you a grass but it might save someone's life. However insignificant it might seem we need your information to make our communities safer.”
