THE search continues, on the Isle of Wight this morning (Friday), for a person feared missing in the West Wight area.

Hampshire Constabulary says its officers were called out just before 7pm on Thursday night,  after concerns were raised about a man aged in his 70s.

Needles and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams and the crew of Freshwater independent lifeboat are involved in the ongoing operation today.

Freshwater’s lifeboat crew was called out for a second time at about 6:30am.

Yarmouth RNLI is also in the Freshwater area this morning.

The search started last night (Thursday), at around 8:45pm, as the Isle of Wight County Press previously reported.

It involved the coastguard helicopter and Isle of Wight coastguard and lifeboat teams.

WightSAR has also been involved.

The Isle of Wight search and rescue organisation says it was called out after the discovery of a vehicle in the Freshwater Bay area.

UPDATE 1pm: Coastguard and lifeboat crews have now been stood down.

A spokesperson for the coastguard said: "Rescue crews have now been stood down pending further information from Hampshire Police."
