CORONAVIRUS swab tests are still available on the Isle of Wight and Islanders do not need to go to the mainland for one, the Isle of Wight Council has confirmed.

We are urged to use local reporting options - the app or a dedicated Isle of Wight phone number - to avoid automatic referral to Portsmouth, however.

County Hall has issued advice after some Islanders told the Isle of Wight County Press they had been given appointments at a centre on the other side of The Solent.

Isle of Wight County Press:

On the Isle of Wight, a coronavirus testing facility is open between 9am and 2.30pm, in the Medina Leisure Centre car park in Newport.

Tests are also being delivered to the homes of Islanders who have reported COVID-19 symptoms via the test and trace app.

The Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) says if symptoms are reported to the government's national online coronavirus portal, patients are automatically diverted to the regional testing centre in Portsmouth.

However, Islanders can instead use the app, or call 03333 218865 for an appointment at the Newport testing centre.

The CCG warns that you should only request a test or an appointment if you are displaying coronavirus symptoms (a new persistent cough, fever, loss of taste or smell).

If a re-test is required, no appointment is necessary.
