A CORONAVIRUS testing station in the grounds of Medina Leisure Centre, Newport has provided more than 2,000 tests since it opened on 25 April.

It had the capacity to carry out 200 tests a day.

Now, children as young as five and upwards are eligible for the test if they have symptoms of COVID-19.

Appointments at the car park testing area are available from Monday to Saturday, between 9am and 2.30pm. They can be booked by phone on 0333 321 8865.

Meanwhile, Islanders who reports symptoms using the test and trace app are connected to a call centre. A swab test can be ordered and delivered to their doorstep.

As of yesterday (Tuesday), there are three signs to look out.

  • new continuous cough
  • high temperature
  • loss/change in normal sense of smell or taste

    If you have these symptoms, you should self isolate.

Simon Bryant, director of public health for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Councils said: “By making it easy for those with symptoms to get tested, and with digital contact tracing provided by the NHS COVID-19 app, we can continue to reduce transmission of the virus across the Island.

"If uptake and use of testing and the app is widespread it will give us the greatest (opportunity) to enable the return to normality.”
