AMBULANCE crews and a Coastguard teams from Ventnor were called out to Shanklin beach this afternoon (Monday).

HM Coastguard initially received a call at 1.37pm, with a report of a person who had got into difficulty in the sea.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight NHS Trust said: "Two ambulances and one officer in an ambulance car attended the scene alongside the coastguard.

"A patient was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport."

UPDATE 8.27pm: Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team reported the person as having fallen down the sea wall steps and injuring themselves, with casualty care given.
