COASTGUARDS were called to Culver Down today (Saturday) following reports that a man had gone over a cliff.

The Ventnor and Needles Coastguard Rescue Teams were called to the area shortly after 5.30pm, but were informed the man had been found safely before they arrived.

A UK Coastguard spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a man going over the cliff at Culver.

"Teams were stood down shortly before arriving at the scene, after he emerged safe and well."

The news comes on a day when the Ventnor Coastguard Rescue team urged people planning to visit the coast this weekend to take extra care.
