THE 110th Yarmouth Carnival, due to be held between August 15-22 is the latest Island carnival to be cancelled.

The decision follows the committees of Newport, Ventnor, Ryde, Sandown and Cowes who have all called off their events this year.

Yarmouth Carnival is (usually) an eight-day festival which starts with a fun run and has a variety of events including decorated dinghies, crabbing, fishing, water sports and pet show throughout the week, culminating in a parade around town.

Yarmouth Carnival Chairman, Jen Allen, said the committee hopes to organise an alternative event.

She said: "The committee has been reviewing this week in light of the latest guidance.

"Sadly, we have decided to cancel the carnival as we know it.

"Unfortunately, there won’t be a schedule of events for the week or a parade, but watch this space, we are working on ideas to bring everyone a bit of fun and reason to celebrate."
