ISLANDERS will be able to save money and the animals thanks to a new voucher system set up in aid of the Isle of Wight Zoo.

The Wildheart Trust has launched a new Sanctuary Saver voucher scheme to encourage Islanders in isolation to pre-purchase a £10 ticket for when the site re-opens.

The popular attraction in Sandown has seen one of its vital sources of funding taken away after it was forced to close to visitors amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The voucher guarantees free entry once restrictions are lifted but also guarantees food and resources for the animals at the zoo right now.

Alexia Fishwick, trustee of The Wildheart Trust said: “We’ve got to gather together our friends. We’re going all out to survive this part of our story. I’m so fired up about it.

"I’m determined that we’ll make The Wildheart Trust glisten throughout, from all the stars twinkling in it."

Sandra Peelo, animal carer at The Wildheart Trust said: “Please, if you are reading this and are fortunate enough to be in a position to, help our Wildheart family of animals.

"I personally cannot express in words the gratitude we would all feel for such support.

"Pay cuts I can handle, but we cannot see our animals go without.

"Rest assured the dedicated team here will be keeping all our wonderful animals safe until we can open our doors once more and welcome you back with open arms."
