A PEST control company on the Island has reported a big increase in callouts as mice and rats take advantage of the lockdown.

Hillbans Pest Control in Ryde is advising residents to take steps to avoid attracting pests into their home while they are self isolating amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The company is reporting the crisis has seen them receive a large increase in home callouts.

Sandra Knowles, of Hillbans Pest Control, said: “Check the outside of your home for any gaps and fill these, a gap as small as a pen is large enough for a mouse to get through and into your home.

“If you’re feeding the birds, place feed on a tray and remove it after a few days. Sweep up any that spills on to patios or this will provide food for rats and mice.

“Use the extra time at home to clean out sheds and garages to disturb pests and prevent them from creating a home.

“Closing bins properly helps to prevent flies from breeding and rodents being fed.

“Our pest control experts are still available to help with any issues in your home or empty premises – if you need our support please use the benefit of our knowledge and expertise.”
