AN ISLAND man has been arrested by armed police after a high speed chase.

Isle of Wight Police yesterday (Monday) began the chase at around 4pm after the driver of a vehicle in Wootton refused to stop.

A 23-year-old man was arrested for with driving without a full licence, no insurance and failing to stop for police.

A spokesperson for the police said: " A pursuit took place travelling from Wootton, through Firestone Copse and up to Binstead before heading back to the Wootton area where the driver decamped on New Road.

"He was detained after a short foot chase by police dog Bruno and his handler as well as one of the armed response officers who had joined the pursuit.

"The vehicle has been seized and collected by Stag Lane motors.

"We have said before but if you have concerns about someone driving without the proper documentation or under the influence of drink or drugs please tell us so that we can deal with them."
