A BRAND new animated mini-series, called Pins and Nettie - is inspired by hedgehogs on the Isle of Wight.

Created by Daily Madness Productions, it features two little hedgehogs who find their usual adventures placed on hold because they need to stay at home.

Lindsey Adams, co-creator and director, said: "Obviously we have made this to be as widespread as we can given the current Covid-19 crisis, but we feel there is a bonus secondary layer by introducing a series that embraces and highlights an endangered animal.

"Following the Isle of Wight's status last year as an Unesco biosphere reserve, we are delighted to present to the Island a series for children starring one of their most beloved mammals — the hedgehog.

"We hope the series will quietly raise the profile of hedgehogs, and reflect the cause spearheaded by local councillor Will Taylor who launched the Save the Hedgehogs Isle of Wight campaign in autumn last year."

It launched on Friday April 17, with an episode called Together and Safe, specifically created to acknowledge and identify feelings of anxiety caused by the current Covid-19 crisis, in a way that is suitable for the youngest of audiences.

Episode one featured a mindfulness exercise, to help children worried about the current crisis.
