COWES Carnival organisers have announced both its main and illuminated carnivals have been cancelled.

A spokesperson for the community organisation said: "Today (Friday), we have made a heartbreaking decision.

"In this, our 124th year, we will not be having our main and illuminated carnivals.

"As soon as Government guidelines allow, we will hold a Cowes carnival spot the window event in hope we can bring people to Cowes High Street and help our Cowes businesses as much as they have helped us in the past.

"We will also hold a car treasure hunt so families can take part and have some fun.

"Father Christmas will still be going around the streets collecting his letters, as we are already preparing some special post boxes on our float, so children can stay safe but still see him.

"Please keep supporting us, and let us make next year — our 125th anniversary — very special."
